河野は2023年より、石川県・山中温泉を舞台とした作品を継続的に制作してきた。温泉街を象徴する山岳風景に始まり、市街地の断片的な風景を経て、本作では大聖寺川と、その流域にある鶴仙渓へと視線を移している。
川の流れを辿るなかで見えてくるのは、長い時間をかけて地形を削り出し、この土地の姿を形づくってきた水の働きである。また上流では、ダムの建設によって複数の集落が失われている。現在も流れ続ける水と、すでに失われた生活の時間。両者は断絶するのではなく、同一の流れのなかに堆積し、重なり合っている。
川、岩、動植物、痕跡。流れに沿って出会ったものを撮影した本作には、目に見えない時間の層が、今ここにある水とともに写し出されている。
Since 2023, Kono has been building a body of work set in Yamanaka Onsen, Ishikawa Prefecture. Beginning with the mountainous landscape that symbolises the hot spring town, and later moving through fragmented views of the urban area, this work shifts his attention to the Daishoji River and Kakusenkei Gorge, which lies within its basin.
Tracing the course of the river reveals the force of water, which has carved out the terrain over a long span of time and shaped the appearance of this land. Upstream, several villages have also been lost due to the construction of a dam. The water that continues to flow in the present and the time of lives already lost are not severed from one another; rather, they accumulate and overlap within the same current.
River, rocks, flora and fauna, traces. In this work, photographed through encounters along the flow of the river, invisible layers of time are brought into view together with the water flowing here, now.
